Dave Ramahi, president and chief executive officer of Optomec, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Boston, Massachusetts. The company’s board of directors, management team and employees say they extend their deepest sympathies to Ramahi’s family. He will be remembered for the personal compassion and boundless energy he brought to the company and its customers, and he will be deeply missed by many across the industry.

The board of directors has appointed Mike Barry to the role of interim president and CEO. Barry previously served as Optomec’s vice president of corporate development and has been a member of Optomec’s board of directors for many years. He has 30 years of experience in senior executive positions at a number of rapid growth high-tech companies, including his role as founder and CEO of a successful software startup, Rosetta Technologies. With Barry’s in-depth knowledge of Optomec’s customers, operations, employees and culture, it is said he is well-suited to carry on Ramahi’s vision of bringing additive manufacturing (AM) to the production floor.

Ramahi joined Optomec in 2002 after successful leadership positions in the computer graphics industry. Under his leadership as CEO, Optomec transitioned from startup mode, to sustained growth and profitability before achieving his vision of becoming one of the few AM companies that derives the majority of its revenue from production applications. Ramahi earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
