Massive Dimension Partners With ABB to Create Advanced Large-Format 3D Printers
The collaboration combines ABB’s robotics technology, including its cobots and the largest IRB 8700 model, with Massive Dimension’s process controllers and industrial extrusion tools.
Massive Dimension has engaged in strategic partnership with ABB, a global provider of robotics and industrial automation. The collaboration aims to produce cutting-edge large-format 3D printers that leverage ABB’s collaborative robots (cobots) and industrial product line alongside Massive Dimension’s advanced process controllers and industrial extrusion tooling. The partnership aims to enhance capabilities and efficiency in additive manufacturing (AM) for industries such as aerospace, automotive, and construction.
To date, Massive Dimension has successfully integrated its tooling on ABB’s cobot series and extended its capabilities to the largest model ABB offers, the IRB 8700. This extensive integration showcases the versatility and robustness of Massive Dimension’s extrusion technology, capable of scaling from cobots to heavy-duty industrial models.
The companies say the integration of ABB’s robotics technology with Massive Dimension’s extrusion systems is set to redefine the landscape of large-fomat 3D printing. ABB’s cobots and industrial robots, known for their precision, reliability and flexibility, will be paired with Massive Dimension’s process controllers and industrial extrusion tools to deliver unparalleled performance and efficiency in AM.
“We are thrilled to join forces with ABB, a pioneer in industrial automation,” says Tyler McNaney, Massive Dimension CEO. “This partnership allows us to push the boundaries of what is possible in large-format 3D printing, offering our customers enhanced capabilities and superior quality, and global reach.”
The new large-format 3D printers resulting from this partnership are designed to meet the growing demand for high-performance AM solutions in various industries, including aerospace, automotive and construction. By combining ABB’s advanced robotic systems with Massive Dimension’s expertise in extrusion technology, the collaboration promises to deliver robust, reliable and highly efficient 3D printing solutions.
