Women in 3D Printing (Wi3DP), a nonprofit dedicated to promoting, supporting and inspiring women using additive manufacturing (AM) technologies, is celebrating seven years of operations as it creates a new leadership structure with Kristin Mulherin stepping into the role of president.
Wi3DP has grown from a blog to a global organization with nonprofit status. Founder Nora Touré has been leading the way at Wi3DP since starting a blog in 2014 which featured interviews with women working in the 3D printing industry. Since then, Wi3DP has become a global community with more than 23,000 members across all gender identities, coming together in 80 local chapters across 36 countries on six continents. Touré is stepping into the role of chairwoman of the Wi3DP board of directors.
“I'm extremely proud of the work we've achieved over the past seven years — growing from a blog to one of the largest communities in our industry,” Touré says. “Now is a time when we need to think about the next steps for our organization as our team has grown and our programs have evolved. Kristin, as one of our first ambassadors and a board director for 2-plus years, has shown tremendous talent and appetite for structuring Wi3DP into a sustainable and scalable organization.”
The new Wi3DP president has deep roots in the AM industry with leadership positions across various disciplines at companies, including HP and Dyndrite, and founding the 3D printing consultancy AM-Cubed. Mulherin has also served as a chapter ambassador in Portland, Oregon, and a member of the Wi3DP board of directors. She also heads sponsorship opportunities and sits on the executive committee of the TIPE 3D Printing by Wi3DP conference.
“Along with the rest of the executive team, I look forward to supporting the men and women of this community, increasing our partnerships across both additive and traditional manufacturing, and providing the support to further develop our initiatives, such as the NextGen and DEI programs,” Mulherin says.
Women in 3D Printing welcomes individual and corporate members to join the growing community. Wi3DP programming includes NextGen (which focuses on the next generation of the AM workforce) and DEI (which expands beyond the foundational focus in gender parity to address more aspects of diversity, equity and inclusion).
