Takumi Machining Center Integrates 3D-Hybrid AM Tool
The addition of a wire-arc additive manufacturing tool integrates 3D printing into a double-column machining center.
Takumi USA is partnering with 3D-Hybrid to showcase a large, fast metal 3D printer with full in-process machining capability at IMTS 2018 (Booth 338420). A Takumi H12 double-column machining center will be equipped with 3D-Hybrid’s wire-arc additive manufacturing tool to create a high-precision platform with large work envelope and high-speed machining capabilities. Demonstrations during the show will focus on the machine’s strengths for producing large, high-precision parts such as those required for mold and die tooling.
The H12 machining center offers a table measuring 59.1" × 37.8", with X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measuring 53.2" × 37.4" × 23.6". Its 15,000-rpm, direct-drive spindle provides 105.5 foot-pounds of torque. The integration of additive manufacturing capability on this system enables in-process machining, repair and salvage applications, multimaterial parts and reduced material costs on large parts, the companies say.
